Rae Jean Hill (Allen)

Birth Date: 1948-10-29
Deceased Date: 2015-08-20
Obituary:
Rae Jean Hill passed away at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford on Aug. 20, 2015, from complications after pulmonary edema.

Born Oct. 29, 1948, in Rockford, to Eugene and Phyllis (Bowman) Allen. She graduated from Auburn High School, a highly decorated accordion player. She married Merritt Hill in 1968 and followed him to Germany during his service time, where they started their family. They moved to Roscoe to raise their family. She worked part time at Kohls in Machesney Park for over 10 years. The remainder of her time was spent having adventures with friends and family, which included spoiling her seven grandchildren: Haley, Faith and Dane Simonson; Holden and Charlie Hill; and Isabelle and Elijah Shipman. They were her pride and joy. Rae Jean was a loving mother to many children, not just her own. She cared for her children’s friends and family friends’ as if they were her own. She was always there to offer advice and a firm “wisterpoop” if you ever decided to stray off course. She was always there through the good times and the bad, showing her love and support with a laugh and a smile. She was a loving wife, mom, daughter, grandmother, sister, and unbelievably loving Aunt. Her friends were a large part of her family and we would like to thank them all for their love and support, especially the Zintaks, Renners, Pitners, Roberts, Andersons and Mr. Lee.

Terry McGuire - September 5th, 2023
My earliest memory of Chuck was 4th grade at Ellis Elementary School---I was new to Ellis and had no friends... I had a crush on what turned out to be Chuck's girlfriend. Chuck confronted me and told me to meet him on the playground after school, by the big tree. I was excited to be making a new friend. After school I went to the playground and waited. He didn't show up. It was years later I figured out that he meant to beat my ass! My loss. We hung out at times..going to the small store near his house. He taught me to pick up 6-packs of soda from the back of the store, bring them into the store for the deposit...which we used to buy candy. Later, when he got his driver's license, we took his cousin and a couple of nieces to the Robin Drive in...it was probably a late '40's car...he pulled over before we got to the Robin and told me & his cousin to get in the trunk...he then went through the ticket booth and paid for one tickets...nieces got in free. We dove in to find a spot to park; Chuck took great pleasure at hitting the speed bumps hard enough to bounce us around in the trunk. Then he stopped to let us out of the trunk to the applause and honking horns of movie goers... he slammed the trunk shut and jumped back in the driver's seat...but the trunk wouldn't latch, so he had to jump back out to slam it again...& again...as the honking and cheering continued! These are just a couple of memories suitable for sharing! I will miss Chuck & wish all the best to Rita and family!

I have know Mike since grade school at O.F. Barbour School. During our years at Auburn HS we would often hang out with Mike, Phil Meli, Al Rudolf, Larry Pozzi, Don Arnold, Bob Blosser, Bob Clark and our girlfriends. Many good times celebrating New Years Eve, going to the Wagon Wheel Ice Rink and getting together to prepare for NDCC inspections and drill competions with the other high schools. My wife, Linda Bartscher-Lombardo (Auburn class of 68), and I were glad we had the opportunity to meet up with Phil, his wife Linda and Mike and Robin in Florida a few years ago. He was a dear friend that we will certainly miss. Our heartfelt condolences to his daughter Jessica and rest of the DalFratello family.

MARLENE Schoeneck (Carlsen) - June 22nd, 2016
Bonnie was my very  first friend when my  dad was transferred to Rocford in 1956. She befriended  me, an only child with limited social skills around other children. She and Mike ultimately rented an apartment from my dad and our families lived across the hall from one another.

When they moved to Prophetstown we lost touch. I only managed  visiting her once there. I will always remember as a loving, caring individual who took me under her wing.

Love you Bonnie!

Rita Tenner (McKenna)

Birth Date: 1948-11-08
Deceased Date: 2022-04-13
Obituary:

Rita Marie Tenner (November 8, 1948-April 13, 2022)

“…Laughter and tears are sown right into the quilt, part and parcel, stitch by stitch. Emotions, experiences, heartbreak, mourning, pain and regret, stitched into the cloth, along with happiness, satisfaction, cheer, comfort, and love. The finished quilts were a living thing, a reflection of the spirits of its creators.” --Arlene Stafford- Wilson, Lanark County Connections-Memories Among the Maples

Rita Marie McKenna Tenner was a quilter. A gifted quilter; an award-winning quilter! If we close our eyes, we can imagine Rita looking over the quilt of her life, tenderly touching each piece. She pauses, running her finger over one tear-stained square, representing the heartbreak, pain, and grief of a cancer diagnosis that she knew would end badly. But side-by-side with that square was another: a piece made of soft flannel, warm, comforting, sturdy, with deep, jewel-toned colors, Carl! Rita smiles as she recalls her life lived with the love of her life, her devoted husband of 53 years, Carl Tenner with whom she shared everything.

Her eyes scan the quilt. There are hundreds of pieces scattered over the surface, each representing a relationship she had experienced throughout her life, friends she collected along the way, like she collected fabric for her quilts: life-long friends from high school in Rockford, friendships formed from years of camping at the Harbor Campground in Three Lakes Wisconsin, friends and colleagues she made when teaching in the Rockford Public Schools.

But at the center of the quilt is a large piece in the shape of a heart. This piece is for the children. Rita loved children. Her first calling in her life was as a mother, and she deeply loved her children Kim and Mike, and always knew she was deeply loved right back. Her love of children is also why she became a teacher. And knowing that she still had more room in her heart, Rita and Carl became foster parents and over a ten-year period of time, they shared their lives, and their home with one hundred foster children, some staying for a day, some for a season, but all of them staying in Rita’s heart forever.

Rita folds the quilt, smiling over a life well-lived, well-loved, and faith-filled.

The world will be a little colder without Rita’s quilts and without the love and joy she radiated to all who have known her. Rita will always be missed by her many friends, her husband Carl, children Kim and Mike (Tatyana),and grandson Sergey, her sisters Linda, Debbie and Jody and faithful little dogs, Cricket and Emma.

A memorial service for Rita is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 at 12pm at United Lutheran Church, located at 3630 N Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL 61103. A visitation will take place at 10am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Serenity hospice and home at 1658 South IL RT 2 PO 462 Oregon, IL 61061
